This variety beats the nutritional benefits of brown rice. Red is a colored rice and  has anthocyanins which help to prevent the cancer.

In an earlier days usually red rice is cooked using fire wood.

Earlier days usually we ate kanji, black gram mezhukkupuratti, chutney powder and pappad in our everday routine. But now a days we do not get time to make this dishes in evey day routine.


2 cup of rice wash three times. Then boil water in a vessel.


After boiling the water add the cleaned rice. And allow to cook or keep in a rice cooker. In rice cooker after 2 hours rice will be cooked. We can strain it.

  1. 1 cup red cow peas sprout
  2. 1 onion
  3. 1 green chili
  4. 5 garlic clove
  5. 2 spring curry leaves
  6. 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  7. pinch pepper powder
  8. Salt
  9. 2 tbsp coconut oil

Cook the sprout in a cooker with 1/2 cup of water. After 2 to 3 whistles switch it off. Check if it is cooked.ADD Nicely chopped onion, slitted green chili and chopped garlic cloves saute in the 2 tbsp oil.


Add curry leaves inbetween the sauting. After 2 minutes it will be SLIGHTLY golden. Add a of pinch pepper powder, 1/2 tsp red chili powder.


And add cooked sprout while sauting ingredients with salt. Stir it well for two minutes. Remove from the fire.


This chutney powder does’t go bad for one week. In every home this chutney powder is kept as a side dish in lunch or dinner.

  1. 1 cup grated coconut
  2. 5 red chili
  3. 4 shallot
  4. small gooseberry size tamarind
  5. 2 spring curry leaves
  6. 1/2 tsp chopped ginger
  7. 1/2 tsp salt


Saute all ingredients in a pan in low flame except tamarind.When These ingredients become golden brown, remove it from the fire.


Allow to cool. Then grind the sauted ingredients with tamarind in a blender.


We can get a savoury taste from this chutney.


Today I enjoyed my supper with rice porridge, sprout mezhukkupuratti and coconut chutney powder.
